I so love New York! I could just go every day and be perfectly content with my life. I had my last appointment with the French Consulate to pick up my visa. I went with my friends Cait, Hydah, and Jess. We had to leave really early to make it to the city by 9 am. We took the train this time, and as I predicted Jess didn’t wake up in time and ended up meeting us in NYC at 3 IN THE AFTERNOON! She is not a morning person and never will be. Anyways, Cait, Hydah, and I drove together to the train station, but we were running late because Cait couldn’t find her wallet. We eventually left but we were rushing the whole time. We pulled into the train station and saw the train was already there. We jumped out of the car and literally sprinted as fast as we could! The train was seconds away from leaving and I quickly made it through the door, followed shortly by Cait. Hydah on the other hand goes to jump in and the door slams on her! The force knocked her out of the train and she fell onto the concrete! Cait and I were screaming her name and everyone on the train was staring at us. Then Hydah starts banging on the door trying to get in! Obviously we couldn’t open it, and I was trying to tell her to back away from the train so she wouldn’t get killed! A conductor a few train cars down saw what was going on and halted the train and let her in. Once she got in the train safe, we all couldn’t help but laugh! It was seriously the funniest thing ever. We were hysterical the whole train ride. We just couldn’t believe that happened! It is definitely an event I am going to remember and laugh about forever!

Classic New York City Lunch; A hot dog and a snapple from a hot dog stand

After grabbing a quick lunch, we passed by this chocolate shop that conveniently happened to have free samples. The shop was called K Chocolatier and located in the Upper East Side. Cait is holding the famous truffle. The chocolates were insanely expensive, but they were so amazing!

I had no intentions of shopping, but after picking up my au pair visa, I met up with Cait and Hydah at Tory Burch. I fell in love at first sight haha! I wanted everything; the bags, the shoes, and most of all the sunglasses! After trying on numerous pairs I couldn’t resist and splurged on a pair for $150. I have never spent more than $20 on sunglasses before, but sometimes a girl just has to treat herself! Image

Jess, me, Cait, and Hydah outside the famous Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. This wasn’t the main entrance and the doors were locked. We had to walk to 51st street and use the other entrance.

Does this apartment building look familiar to you? Any die hard Sex and the City fan will recognize it as Carrie Bradshaw’s residence! The address is 66 Perry Street (intersecting Bleeker Street).

Typical street in the West Village. It is the most beautiful neighborhood in my opinion. It is also one of the wealthiest. We spent the majority of our day uptown because that is where I had to get my visa. Our next trip we will definitely go downtown and explore these areas!

Image

We ended our trip by going to Trattoria Spaghetto in the West Village. It is a cute outdoor/indoor Italian restaurant. The food was great and the wine was even better.  We spent over 15 hours in New York. All in all it was a great day 🙂

My twin sister’s blog post. Very inspiring and I feel exactly the same way! I suggest everyone take the time to read this.

wherever the wind takes me

My whole life I have been choosing between the security of a degree or the passion of a dream. How do I decide? What about the risks? What am I doing? I am 22 years old and seem to be having a major quarter life crisis. I have always known what I wanted to be ever since I was a little girl. However, I was surrounded by people telling me “that will never happen” or “be realistic”. Well who are they to tell me what I can and cannot do? I am done listening. It’s now or never right? Maybe not everyone is meant to take the path “society” has laid out for “us”. I don’t see a cubicle or white picket fence in my future. The thought of the same routine 9-5 job for the rest of my life makes me sick. I could care less about “keeping up…

French Consulate, New York City, Souvenirs, Sushi, Visa, Wine

I had an appointment at the French Consulate yesterday in New York City. My best friend Jess and I took the bus from New Jersey and arrived in the city around 10 am. The consulate is conveniently located in the beautiful Upper East Side on 5th Avenue. It was directly across the street from Central Park!

Image

Since my appointment was at 11:30, Jess and I decided to hang around Central Park to kill some time. It was beyond beautiful! I forgot how huge the park actually is. When I was walking through it, I felt like I wasn’t even in NYC because it was so peaceful. It’s crazy to have such contrasting opposites so close to one another. It really is like being in two different worlds!

ImageAfter spending almost an hour in Central Park, we made our way back to the French Consulate for my appointment. Jess unfortunately wasn’t allowed to enter the building with me, and she had to wait for me to be done. I WAS SO MAD! The security guard warned us that on average it takes about an hour and a half! I felt so bad for her. If I had known it was going to take so much time and she wouldn’t be allowed to be with me, I would have had her just meet me in the city later. Luckily Jess preoccupied herself by walking about 20 blocks and going shopping. So typical of her!

Everything went smoothly at the French Consulate thank god! I totally thought I was going to forget something. I was kind of nervous talking to the workers there. They were obviously all French. The one french guy was pretty rude to everyone. One girl almost cried because she didn’t have the right paper work and he yelled at her. The other french guy was my age and really nice, but he definitely thought I was the dumbest person ever. He asked me if I could speak french and I said barely. Then he started speaking french to me and I was like uhm I got like two words out of that sentence. And they kept speaking French to each other and then English to me. They were probably calling me a stupid American girl! Oh well… at least it is over and done with!

Image

Once the appointment was over, I walked from 5th Avenue and 74th Street to 3rd Avenue and 54th Street where Jess was shopping. Along the way I was walking down Park Avenue and then turned down this street in the picture above. The houses are so beautiful! It is my dream to live in something like this one day. I am definitely going to move to New York once I return from my au pair adventure in France!

Jess and I were starving by the time we met up so we found a sushi restaurant nearby called Haru. We each had a glass of Riesling and of course sushi. It was really good but the service was awful!

Jess is also going to be an au pair, but in London. Before we left New York we both made sure to buy souvenirs for our host families! I bought my family four mugs, three mini snow globes, three I ❤ NY bears, two magnets, two t-shirts for the eldest girls, and five postcards! I am also going to get plenty of souvenirs from my hometown. I can’t wait to give them their gifts. I hope they like it all 🙂
